Book Review: Luckiest Girl Alive

"As a teenager at the prestigious Bradley School, Ani FaNelli endured a shocking, public humiliation that left her desperate to reinvent herself. Now, with a glamorous job, expensive wardrobe, and handsome blue blood fiancé, she’s this close to living the perfect life she’s worked so hard to achieve.

But Ani has a secret.

There’s something else buried in her past that still haunts her, something private and painful that threatens to bubble to the surface and destroy everything.

With a singular voice and twists you won’t see coming, Luckiest Girl Alive explores the unbearable pressure that so many women feel to “have it all” and introduces a heroine whose sharp edges and cutthroat ambition have been protecting a scandalous truth, and a heart that's bigger than it first appears.

The question remains: will breaking her silence destroy all that she has worked for—or, will it at long last, set Ani free?" - GoodReads Overview

The "Luckiest Girl Alive" was released in 2015 but I just read it a few weeks ago. I'm not really an early adopter and like to see how trends and reviews go before investing a lot of time in anything. After hearing good reviews of this book I decided to read it while traveling to San Diego.

This book is dark and twisty. You will either love Ani or you won't. The "Luckiest Girl Alive" is an easy read, so if you don't like fiction books like 'In a Dark, Dark Wood" or "Gone Girl" then you probably won't like this. A lot of reviews talk about how the writing is less than substantial, but this book is from a viewpoint of a 28-year-old girl who has been through a lot (anything more would give spoilers) and has created the vision of a perfect life.

Personally, the darker and twistier the better to me. While reading this at the airport and on the plane it completely removed me from my surroundings and all I could do was focus on what was going to happen next. The "Luckiest Girl Alive" actually surprised me - there were twists and turns that I never saw coming and some moments actually left me in shock. Unlike, 'The Girl on the Train" where I could see what was happening, Ani's story kept surprising me. I had to re-read a couple of chapters just to make sure I was reading everything because I was reading so quickly to see what would happen next.

If you like dark and twisty, need an easy read, you're not a classic book critic, then I think you will also enjoy this book. Let me know if you've read it, or what you're reading now!
