I Don't Know About You ... But I'm Definitely Older Than 22

As I sit (okay, lay in bed) and watch the Billboard Music Awards, I realize that Taylor Swift sings about feeling 22 and I am feeling older than 26. Maybe I should write my own lyrics?

I don't know about you,
but I'm feeling 26,
this weekend was so busy,
even standing up makes me feel dizzy

I don't know about you,
but I'm really tired, too,
Even laying in bed,
I'm too tired to be fed

Actually, I'll just stick to tweeting for a living.

This weekend was so crazy and busy, that I don't even know where to begin. Let's start with Friday night... When I got my smarty pants on.

Going to school and working on two degrees is completely time consuming, and a lot of work. Having to skip going out with friends or weekend trips because of school can suck, but being inducted into the honor program for my master's degree was kind of fun. Even though I think the honors thing is a little silly, it is fun to say I am an honor student.

Proof! I never know what you're suppose to do with these sort of things. I've never even framed a degree so I hope I don't end up losing this along the way. I also have a pin and a medal. Wonder if I wore it around if people would think I was being weird or funny? I'm going with weird.

Of course my mom had to have a picture for her scrap book. So this was the picture. If you look, you'll see that my fingers look like alien fingers. I celebrated accordingly with champagne.

Friday night some friends and I hit up one of the Little Rock Film Festival parties on top of a bridge. How can you say no to a party on the bridge? I ran into some old friends and made some new ones.

The view from the bridge... Little Rock might be a bit blurry, but I had had a lot of champagne at that point.

Have no fear though, I also celebrated the night with a hot dog at the end. How can you say no to a hot dog? I'm a ketchup and mustard type of girl.

Saturday I was house/sitting and between working in the morning and night, I took an hour to play outside with Gumbo (dog above). Gumbo likes to play tackle, fetch and play tug-a-war. He loves to hug, knows how to dance and loves to have his head scratched. He's also a great cuddle buddy.

Now Saturday night I worked at an event we had at work. Though my job is social media, which includes a lot of tweeting, it also includes taking photos with animals. You know, in case I decide to be an animal herder one day.

This is Farley. He doesn't seem like he's be a good cuddle buddy like Gumbo. I'll stick to dog sitting and not llama sitting.

The event was absolutely beautiful. If you believe in a mission of an organization you should support it in anyway you can.

I also got to hang out with an old friend and a new one. We all wore white... we are snappy.

Sunday the fun didn't stop... I woke up early after a late night working to head to my hometown for my best friend's bridal shower. The wedding is less than a week away... no more carbs until June 16!

Or, maybe only a couple.

This is what I have done tonight once I got home. Sit. That's it.

After a long weekend of work, fun and more fun, it's time to relax a bit before Monday begins.

Life is Bananas

“When you're young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don't leap at all because there's not always someone there to catch you. And in life, there's no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?”
Sex and the City

Can't stand the heat...stay out of the South.

So. It's been a while. I'm sorry loyal readers. (I know two of you who get a kick out of this. The other seven are just compassionate and follow me out of pity. I'll accept that, too.)

SO...what's up? Here is a re-cap of life lately:

I got into grad school. Yeah. All that fun studying during lunch breaks, at night and a couple of weekends I guess paid off. Or the school just felt bad for me because I emailed them weekly until I heard a reply. Either way, I got in. I start August 18 working on my Masters of Public Administration. In 2 1/2 years you will be able to call me Master Maegan. No? Fine.

The same Friday I found out that I had gotten into grad school was the weekend I was going to the lake for Forth of July. I spent the entire weekend with some of the most fun people ever. We had a good time. Lots of laughs. Lots of fun. Lots of memories I'll never forget. (Some memories I will try to forget though...)

This is Brandi, she's a super fun, sweet girl and we found out we had something in common. That will be a story for later on this week...it involves dating...the same guy...at the same time.
After leaving the lake Monday, I went to my parents house to see what was shaking. As I drove up into the neighborhood, I see an army of flags...

Very patriotic my parents' neighborhood. Gotta love small towns enthusiasm for holidays.

Now that holidays are over and it's back to real world, I seem to have a daily afternoon snack that I am totally obsessed with eating. M&M's, Cheez-it's and gummy bears. This reminds me that even though I argue I am an adult, my eating habits are of a 6-year-old.

But who can say no to gummy bears???

Last weekend my cousin Sarah and I got up bright eye early and hit the farmers market. I bought tomatoes, cucumbers, peaches, corn, bell peppers and bread. It's enough to send me over the edge in vegetable heaven.

Tonight I cooked bell peppers, corn and green beans. It was delightful. DELIGHTFUL. What is even more delightful are the peaches that I bought. Thinking about them now makes me happy.

Also tonight, I tried making banana pudding. I'm still waiting on the pudding to set. I hope this turns out. We shall see...

So that's the re-cap from the past two weeks. Lake. Friends. Laughter. Cooking. School. Farmers Market. Work. Life.

Off to check my pudding now...

The Tales of Dating: Broccoli Guy

For seven years I had a serious on-again-off-again boyfriend that I first starting dating when I was in high school. We would be together for three months, off for four, back and forth and back and forth.

That should have been our first clue. Red flag. Stop sign. But that’s a different story...

While we were broken up the summer I was 19, I dated a guy I would like to refer to as Broccoli Guy. He was actually a nice guy and seemingly normal. We were working together at the same department store and when my longtime ex and I broke up he asked if I wanted to go out.

Sure. For one, I thought he was cute and nice and secondly, I can get back at my ex. I was really mature back then.

Broccoli Guy and I went on a couple of dates. Movies. Lunch. Dinner. Hung out with work friends. Frat parties. He even sent me flowers once at work which completely freaked me out.

One night my roommate and I were cooking spaghetti and making brownies so I called Broccoli guy and said, “We are cooking tonight, don’t eat supper, and come over around 6:30 p.m.”

Sounds a bit bossy now, but oh well.

So, he comes over and we are almost done with the fixins. I was trying to be nice because I invited him over and offered to fix him a plate.

He said, “No. I’ve already eaten.”

Huh? I called him at least two hours before so he wouldn’t eat.

“I ate steamed broccoli before I came over,” he said.

“So, you don’t want spaghetti?” I asked with confusion because I couldn’t imagine wanting to eat broccoli over spaghetti. I love spaghetti. It’s one of my favorite foods.

“No,” he said with a very stern voice that made me want to apologize for not cooking steamed cauliflower.

“Well, alrighty. You can still have brownies! We even have ice cream because my roommates boyfriend likes ice cream.”
(I said ‘alrighty’ when I don’t know what else to say in life and I don’t care for ice cream.)

“No,” he said again.

Really? He’s told me no twice. This isn’t going to work. I like to cook. And if you are a picky eater then this is just not going to work. I didn’t tell him that though at the time. I just thought that.

So, me, my roommate and her boyfriend all sat and ate spaghetti then ate brownies while he just sat there and drank water.

The meal may be simple but remember, I was 19 and in college. We considered it gourmet.

I have good memories of Broccoli Guy but the one that stands out is the fact that he ate a lot of broccoli.

It didn’t work out between us, obviously. He called me and asked, “Where is this going?” It freaked me out and I said, “Well, why does it have to go anywhere besides where it is at?”

There was my sign. He went out with another girl that next weekend when I was home sick. There was my other sign. We stayed friends for a while but I don’t know where he is now.

Wherever he is, I hope he’s decided to eat something besides broccoli.
