Valentine's Day Brownies + GIVEAWAY

It's almost Valentine's Day! If you're like me, you care less about the romantic part and more about the "Gal"-entines in your life and baking something sweet! Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lovely, romantic evening with my guy, but a forced one, eh.

So here's recipe for Red Velvet Brownies and a FUN giveaway at the bottom of the post!

(If you want to make it for an 8x8 pan, just half the recipe)

Red Velvet Brownie Mix
  • 6 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 oz red food coloring
  • 4 tsp pure vanilla extract, divided
  • 1 cup (16 tbsp) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a bowl, mix the cocoa powder, red food coloring, and 2 tsp vanilla until it's a smooth paste.
  3. Beat butter and sugar in a stand mixer until fluffy.
  4. Next, add one egg at a time until the mixture is completely mixed.
  5. Stir in 2 tsp of vanilla.
  6. Add the cocoa powder, red food coloring, and 2 tsp vanilla mixture to the butter and sugar in the stand mixer.
  7. Once mixed, add the flour and sugar in small batches.
  8. Begin to mix until combined, but make sure not to over mix.
  9. Pour the mixture into an 18"x12" sheet cake pan that has been previously sprayed with baking spray.
  10. Bake for 18-22 minutes.
Whipped Frosting
  • 5 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar (not Powdered Sugar!)
Instructions

In a small saucepan, whisk flour into milk and heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens. You want it to be very thick, thicker than cake mix, more like a brownie mix is. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. (If I'm in a hurry, I place the saucepan over ice in the sink for about 10 minutes or so until the mixture cools.) It must be completely cool before you use it in the next step. Stir in vanilla.

While the mixture is cooling, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. You don't want any sugar graininess left. Then add the completely cooled milk/flour/vanilla mixture and beat the living daylights out of it. If it looks separated, you haven't beaten it enough! Beat it until it all combines and resembles whipped cream.

Once you have the whipped frosting, add it to the top of your red velvet brownies and cut into pieces.

A Few of my Favorite Philosophy Beauty Things

My friends... You all know how much I love Philosophy beauty products. It's an obsession I've had since Oprah first mentioned them on her favorite things list YEARS and YEARS ago. Anytime I try something new I tell all my friends when they need to try it too. Purity facial wash, renewed hope in a jar, the retinal cream, it's all amazing and if you came to my house and opened up my bathroom drawers and cabinets you'd see them full of Philosphy products.

Of course there are other products from other brands in my bathroom, that's life, but the majority of my beauty products are Philosophy... because I truly LOVE them.

Before you're thinking, "Oh great, another sponsored blog post from a blogger." This is NOT sponosred. All opinions are mine. Philosphy doesn't even know I'm writing this post. I annouced last year that I am a Philosophy #BeautyBeliever and I still am, however, that's not paid. That's just me loving their stuff and writing reviews of new and fun products. (BTW, check out my #BeautyBeliever reviews on Facebook: CLICK HERE)

The holidays are upon us and I know a lot of people who have started holiday shopping. It's time to think about one of these Philosophy Holiday Gift Sets for your mom/sister/aunt/cousin/girlfiend/favorite person/daughter/neice or YOU.

Let's go through my favorites...

Loveswept Holiday Collection

You guys. There's no better way to describe how Loveswept smells but with one word. Sexy. When I worked at Dillard's in college I worked in the fragrance department and layering your scent is a real thing. You will want to layer yourself in Loveswept because it's delicious.

This perfume is sexy. It's romantic. It's my new favorite. This giftset on Philosophy.com is $57 for the holidays and it's worth every penny.

Perfect gift for anyone who loves perfume.

Fresh Cream Gift Set

OK - This gift is perfect for two reasons. It's a great gift at $32 and it has SO MANY GOOD SMELLING THINGS. This is the perfect gift for anyone who loves shower beauty products. Between the scrub to the body wash, it's an amazing start to your morning. Once you apply the cream you're set for a day of soft skin.

Renewed Hope for the Holidays

If you don't get this set for anyone than yourself then you're doing the holidays wrong. I use renewed hope in a jar every. single. day. I also use renewed hope in a jar night every. single. night. You cannot go wrong with this giftset or the price.

Honestly, it's probably better to just buy two of these because the value is amazing.

If you know you have someone in your life who loves beauty but like things on the simpler side, then try giving them these products.
1. Amazing Grace body lotion
2. Purity Facial wash

If you give your family/friends/special people either one of these products you will become their favorite person in the world.

Why am I sharing my love letter about Philosophy? Because I truly believe in this company and its products. As always, you can find these giftsets at Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, etc, but honestly I like shopping directly from Philosophy.com because if you signup for their emails they always send you a promo code or specials. I mean, if you can order something and get something else for free, why not?

#MOTD: Philosophy Take a Deep Breath Makeup

#MOTD = Makeup of the Day

There's really nothing better than having a great makeup day. As a #BeautyBeliever for Philosophy, I've been trying out some of their new Take a Deep Breath makeup line and it's making my skin glow.

The foundation is so light on your skin! It's also buildable, so you can get full coverage (I like full coverage)! Take a deep breath for cheeks is so much fun to play with on your cheeks and eyelids for color. I lightly press my middle finger onto the mesh screen and lightly tap it on the cheekbone and blend.

Here are links to everything I am wearing:

Foundation: Philosophy take a deep breath cushion foundation

Blush: Philosophy take a deep breath color for cheeks in 4.5

Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Pallette 2

Eyeliner: Covergirl

Mascara: Too Faced Better Than Sex Mini Mascara, Black

Lip Gloss: Urban Decay Lipgloss Beso

Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Acne Wash

Ahhh... skin. It’s really hard to show the things you’re most embarrassed about. It’s even harder when it’s on your face for everyone to see.

For anyone who has struggled with blemishes and acne you know how hard it is to look at your skin and feel confident. It's even harder not to obsess, or pick, or hide so no one sees.

Even though I was lucky growing up with clear skin, in my late 20’s the hormonal breakouts and clogged pores started to really break my face out. The breakouts became so bad that I wasn’t going out with friends, doing normal things and it even started to take a toll on my confidence. In my mind, my skin was the only thing people could see and I couldn't see past it. I would wear more and more makeup trying to cover it up, only to know that I was wearing a pound of makeup. (Again, not great for your facial skin...)

Thankfully, I found something that's really made a HUGE difference in my skin... Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Acne Wash

Most problems in my skin were happening when I wasn’t washing my face consistently at night, traveling a lot or that, um, 'fun' time of the month. When I did some research and found the philosophy clear days ahead acne wash I had hope again! It was exactly what I was needing to clean up my bad habits.

Since using this facial wash, I have had minimum outbreaks. (Hormones are hormones after all...) After using the wash for about a week my outbreaks were clearing up dramatically, and my pores became so much smaller.

How I Use it:

  • If I workout after work, I make sure to pack some Purity Facial Wipes to use after I leave the gym to take off any makeup or sweat.

Thanks to my new clean skin routine, I see nothing but clear days ahead!

Where to buy with FREE shipping & returns!

Let me know if you have any questions. I put my name and my life behind these products. Check out my #BeautyBeliever posts on Philosophy's Facebook page.

GIVEAWAY! Win a Philosophy Beauty Bundle!

Hi friends! If you know me or you’ve seen my blog then you know one of my favorite skincare products is Philosophy. After learning about Philosophy in 2007, I’ve been using their products ever since. Two of my all-time favorites are Purity Facial Wash and Renewed Hope in a Jar. No matter what other brands I’ve tried I’ve always gone back to those Philosophy classics because they do the best job at cleansing and moisturizing my skin.

One of their newest products that I have been LOVING is the Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel. I wrote a post about it a couple of weeks ago and even wrote about it in my PhilosophyBeauty Believer post!

The peel is really great for those who want to treat their skin well, but don’t have a lot of time to do it. You can apply it to your skin before you go to bed and it does all the hard work for you! That’s my pitch about Philosophy – it’s beauty I believe in because it does all the heavy lifting. These three products also makeup Philosophy's Cleanse, Peel and Treat routine. As long you use the products, the products will change and transform your skin into something even more beautiful.

I could go ON and ON and ON about these products but I have something better in mind... a GIVEAWAY of these three products! With the help of Philosophy, I am giving away a Purity Facial Cleanser, a Renewed Hope in a Jar AND the Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel. (You can learn more about all of these products HERE.)

All you have to do is comment on this blog to enter. If you’re interested, check below to see how you earn extra entries!

Giveaway ends Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at midnight. I will contact the winner Wednesday, July 29, 2015.

All About Philosophy's Purity Made Simple-Clean Mask

When I heard that Philosophy was introducing a Purity Mask to their skin care collection I became overly excited since their other products work so well on my skin. Other masks either cause breakouts or dryness; sometimes they are so harsh that my skin actually peels! (Attractive, right?) So I had very high hopes for the Philosophy Purity Mask after reading that it was gentle enough to use everyday.

The first time I tried this mask was at night after washing my face with the Purity Facial Wash. It doesn’t take much product to cover your skin and as soon as it turns white you know it’s working! My skin felt fresher and tighter after I used it for the first time, but I wasn’t entirely sold. After all, I know that many times masks can make your skin dry out or in my case, peel.  The mask is light, has no mask-like smell and didn’t cause any irritation. Though the directions say you can leave it on for 60=seconds, I leave it on for a couple of minutes while I multi-task on email or check out Instagram. Once it’s done working it’s magic just wash it off with warm water and follow up with Renewed Hope in a Jar.

After long days of wearing makeup and then sweating at the gym, this masks has helped clean out my pores and soften my complexion. My Philosophy beauty routine keeps my skin soft during cold winter months, or hot, humid summers in the South. If this mask is gentle enough for my sensitive skin, then I know other Philosophy lovers will also see the benefits!

Does Philosophy's Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel Work?

As a lover of Philosophy products, I was thrilled when they asked me to be one of their Beauty Believers and try out the new Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel. This two-step treatment works to reveal radiant skin, improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles and show a reduction on pore size. All of those benefits in just two steps? Sign me up.

All of my life I’ve heard beauty experts say to begin your anti-aging regimen in your 20’s to keep your healthy, youthful glow. After weeks of trying this product, I believe this peel does just that.

First, the Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel includes an alpha/beta hydroxy acid leave-on peel solution that helps resurface your skin throughout the night. How? The alpha hydroxy acids work to reduce discoloration and appearance of fine lines while giving you the healthy glow. The beta hydroxy acids can helps cleanse your pores, which reduces their size. Together this combination creates an anti-aging effect. This exfoliation is gentle on your skin throughout the night while you sleep so it prevents the potential irritation of the skin. The second step in this two-step treatment is the youth-extending night gel that enhances the peel to protect the new skin cells to resist the signs of aging.

This product is VERY easy to use – in the past few weeks I have used it 2-3 times per week after I wash my face with Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser. Let me show you just how easy it is!

Use the Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser to make sure your face is clean from makeup.

Clean, clean, clean! Your face will feel smooth and dirt-free after using this facial cleanser and it has a nice fresh, clean scent!

Soak one of the cotton pads with the Step 1 alpha/beta hydroxy acid leave-on peel solution.

Wipe the cotton pad all over your cleansed face! Do you feel that? It’s the feeling of youth. Don’t worry – this does not burn, there’s no chemical smell, it just feels like you are using a toner.

Time to apply the youth-extending night gel

Gently massage the soothing gel into the skin & leave it on overnight.

That’s it! It’s really that easy. What’s next? This peel will do all of the work for you while you sleep. In the past few weeks I have felt my skin become firmer, more evened in color and I’ve noticed fewer breakouts and smoother skin. My skin is usually sensitive, but I’ve had no issues using this product. The first week I used it once on a Monday and then again on a Thursday with no irritation.

After that I began using it 2-3 times per week. I would like to add that in the morning I wash my face with the Purity Facial Wash and then use the Renewed Hope in a Jar on mornings and nights that I didn’t use the peel as well as sunscreen. Remember, the peel is going to help remove the old cells and create youthful, radiant skin cells to they need protection if you will be in sunlight.

This product will work for anyone who wants their skin to feel and look freshened.
